East Coast–West Coast hip hop rivalry

2Pac Vs. Notorious B.I.G.
In 1994, two rap artists emerged from the streets of Oakland and New York and gained much attention. Close friends Tupac"2pac" Shakur who was an Oakland based rapper and former member of the rap group Digital Underground and The Notorious B.I.G. Notorious B.I.G.'s first album 'Ready to Die' was about to hit the record stores when 2pac was shot just below the recording studio of Notorious B.I.G. and his entourage. Coincidentally the next day 2pac was charged with sexual assault on a female groupie of his. While in jail he heard of the success of Bad Boy Records and Notorious B.I.G.'s , Ready To Die. This caused 2pac to think that Bad Boy Records set him up and almost had him killed. 2pac blamed Notorious B.I.G. accusing him of knowing of the shooting and not warning his friend. This chain of events would escalate into a coastal battle as 2pac took shots at Notorious B.I.G, which caused the East Coast to get involved with their disagreement.
The rivalry between East Coast-West Coast eventually defused, and many rappers from both sides collaborated.
